A unique family with an understanding of the horses mind and body! Born of years of working with and observing 1000's of horses, ponies and other equines during their lifetime.
The Larrigan family Tanya, (mum) Marion and (dad) Peter offer you the chance to learn more about understanding horses, their ways and how to improve yourself. Whether you are a competitor or a ‘happy-hacker,’the door is always open.
Tanya was in the saddle before she could walk and has always been surrounded by animals, from her life in the circus as a child were the animals were the priority to the knowledge and experience gained during her extensive career, her upbringing and background gives her a unique approach to working with horses..
As a rider Tanya represented GB in International Dressage starting at 18 years old when she was in the very first Junior (as it was then called) European Dressage Championships in Aachen on the GB team. This was followed by the senior teams for the World and European Championships and on two Olympic Squads, she has vast experience in all disciplines. As a trainer she is a BHS Reg Dressage Specialist, is a 3* international trainer, a BD level 3 coach educator, a BSJA level 2 coach and at the moment is taking the BD level 3 UKCC coaching. As a rider and trainer she is multi talented - her training covers all areas of the horse world and she is a best selling author
Tanya is seen here having a session with her dad Peter, listening intently - all of three years old1
Marion is an international trainer, list 2 dressage judge, , also on the BD and BHS Register.Marion is a list 2 BD dressage judge and is on the British International Trainers Foundation. During the time the family ran Parkurst Riding and Livery stables at Abinger common Marion trained all the students for the BHS exams.
As well as training Tanya she also was British team member Fiona Bigwoods trainer from the age of 8years old until she moved abroad in her twenties.
Peter was born in Ireland he has ridden and trained horses all his life. The family have trained the horses of Sir Paul Mccartney for over 30 years. Peter only stood down in his mid seventys due to health problems - in the world of animals you cannot buy knowledge or experience.
Peter has a unique affinity with all animals and really is one of the old timers who can never be replaced! he certainly keeps everyone entertained with his stories of the family’s past, of the animals they have met and worked with.
MY PARENTS Thank you for the enquiries on my parents health, both have had a difficult few years - dad had a near fatal car accident (not his fault) some ten years ago now but which robbed him of many pleasures in life - golf his big passion and the main one was riding which he could not do any more. This to someone who was riding and training horses everyday was difficult to get to grips with.
On accompanying mum to see her specialist following on from an accident she had had, it was pure chance mum mentioned his inability to sleep! That remark ended up saving his life - the wheels were set in motion for him to have some tests, these proved positive for prostate cancer, a silent killer in men and one that is not talked about enough.
Two yeas ago dad had a heart op and then collapsed on Christmas Day, he was airlifted to hospital and has made a good recovery but at 79 he has to pull back abit! Mum has also has a few traumatic years ending up with a pacemaker, following a collapse on New Years Eve three years when we were visiting my uncle in hospital who had been in a coma for three weeks with a serious head injury following an accident!
What can l say we all live on, work keeps going- though l think mum has finally realized that time stands still for nobody and one has to ease back sometime - l would dearly love her to get on and write her book - both my parents have had an amazing lifetime with animals, the people they have met and the work they have
It is a wise person who acknowledges their horses limitations, as well as their own, do this and you will have a great partnership!
