One thing we all know for sure is, however much  we plan what we are going to do, in the end life  dictates what happens and sometimes things have to be changed  at the last minute!

We are  on the up and have much in the pipe line here at Maywood, though l am still waiting for the elusive lottery win to finish building the house,  at least we do have the footings in. l look forward to sharing our news with you, so do keep an eye on the site -  please sign the guestbook.

NEWSFLASH, UPDATES AND EVENTS

DISPLAYS
MILBOURNE EQUINE OPEN DAY 22nd AUGUST AT BARN, COURT LODGE, CHURCH LANE,
SEVINGTON  ASHFORD, KENT  TN24 0LD
l will be at my vets Open Day  with two of the Mini Marvels and with Idolo doing  a display to music, do pop over if you have the time there are plenty of stalls and a chance to see the new facilities.

EUROPEAN DRESSAGE & JUMPING CHAMPIONSHIP WINDSOR 25 WED-  28 SAT AUGUST
This was interesting to say the least - with much discussion on the competition dressage front and the lack of public in through the gates gave the show a rather strange and distant feel, Maybe because the arena was so large therefore the spectators was not at all close to what was happening didnt help the whole setup. . Idolo and l led  The Duke of Richmond  Grand Prix Quadrille  in each of the performances, we only had one night that we nearly got soaking wet, luckily l have a very long mac on while we were waiting to go in, l had to  have had a new costume made to reflect the music which was suppose to be Scottish and l was wearing the in the Queens Tartan!

HORSEHERO WEBSITE
l
have started a regular 'blog' spot on   www.horsehero.com  which is updated approximately every two weeks, it is a very informative with quite a variety of people on board..

BRITISH DRESSAGE MAGAZINE
l had a very nice  two page article in BD magazine, but  due  to the amount of work l have done  during my career they had to edit alot of out it, so there are some gaps!

HICKSTEAD INTERNATIONAL DRESSAGE MASTERS GALA EVENING JULY 25th
A one hour taster from my production 'The Magic of the Horse’ was booked in  for the Gala Evening. How lucky were we with the weather,  it was lovely. For the evening l was going to use Idolo with me , the Fluffies, the Vaulting squad who were enroute for the European Championships, the Mini Marvels and the Knights of Middle England with Karl Ude Martinez also introducing each display .

However things didnt go quite to plan, firstly the Vaulters had to drop out  as their vetting being  brought forward so, l was very lucky that my two para riders Emma and Erin could come on board, but the day before the Gala Emmas horse Gentle lamed himself in the field! However Clive Milkins and Sophie Christiansen (Gold medalist) stepped in and came  down to pair up with Erin.  A few days earlier one of my mini's wasn't quite right so Kate Spillet and Jupiter came down for some practises and put their best hooves forward joining the team for the night!

So far so good, except on the night the piece in front of us ran late and we were all in the warm-up arena,  Mr B who Erin was riding got a little fed up  - suddenly when the crowd clapped in the arena he expolded and it was impossible for Erin to stay on board, she was lucky only to be very bruised and winded though she had to go to hospital - Sophie flew the flag for the two girls and got a standing ovation.  The whole piece was very well recived we opened with all the horses parading, followed by Idolo and l  Pole Dancing, then the Fluffies, Sophie, the Mini Marvels  and finally the Knights, Karl managed to get through the evening but l'm not sure how as he was suffering from the dreaded bug which l had had two weeks ago! We couldn't have our special lighting or the drapes but l like to think the horses did the talking,  we  had great feedback with more enquiries for displays, The down side was that Idolo wouldn't settle in the stables, so l ended up having to drive home and got back at 2a.m.!

HAMSTREET COUNTRY FAYRE June 6 and 7. We had a super weekend at the Hamstreet event, The Mini Marvels made  many new friends and l was interviewed for the DVD they are making which will also be shown on Sky,
This year is also the 50th year of Mini Cars so we did a little fun piece with two of the cars who were on site!

Not only that but we met a super young chap called Alfie who was a great help during both days and if we are lucky if could even join the team!

SOUTH BUCKS RDA
We had an excelent  turnout  at the  Para Coaching Seminar 'Developing Partnerships'  l presented two sessions  along with Jane Goldsmith and Clive Milkins, Emma was caught up in the traffic,as we were using a horse neither of us knew l worked him in  first not knowing if she would make it before we were due to finish but she did and  between us we did a training session so the coaches could see how we worked and how we assessed the horse for his suitablitity for Emma.

We are now looking at repeating this seminar at different venues, to create awareness in coaching and for the riders. .

WHATS HAPPENING AT MAYWOOD THIS SEASON

IDOLO AND I IN THE MOTHDue to producing  the Magic of the Horse in Dec '08  l had to pull back alot of work as it was impossible to do the production and keep everything going at home. For this reason l have decided that l can't do the show this winter which is  a pity as we all had great fun we the xmas sparkle and dressing up for the festive time. By bringing it forward a few months the horses are still out so there is less mucking out to do, less exercising and no rugs to be put on and taken off! It's not to bad when you only have one or two but try 30 then you will know what l mean.....

We were all totally exhusted by  the time we had finished the show and it has taken time to get our energy levels back up to scratch. there isn't really anything to complain about when you look around the world. .

l am now starting the PR for the MOTH which is  due to be staged on April 17th at Towerlands  Park  again..

Klaus enjoying his runCompetitions l will have some photos of Klaus (Lord Classic) up shortly he won a BD medium with nearly 73% which l was pleased with.

l have had some interesting horses in for training, some just progressing with their work and others needing help to get back onto the right track - but it doesn't stop there. To help the horse you have to help their riders, l feel very good when l get the two working together again happily  and know that they can go home safely and confidently.
l have  lessons on most days and  the courses  are getting arranged, not forgetting my new book that l am busy working on!

NEWS ON MY PARENTS
For those of you who have follow the site and the happenings here with the family and our animals, l am pleased to say that my ma and pa are doing well, though they forget that time stops for nobody. They are in their 70’s but you wouldn’t know it, they are still very active, but then l think that can always be said for any animal people!

They  have had their 56th  wedding anniversary and with so much happening in the last few years it is great to be able to write that, l must say. Though mums heart has been abit tricky last year and she has had to have a pacemaker fitted - only mum could ask the specialist "could it wait until we had the horses turned out?" l won't tell you his reply!

IDOLO

Idolo the  Cremello Lusitano stallion owned by Suzanne Chipperfield  is  still with me, now 19 years old  he is in my  displays and demos. In 07 he worked for the first time alongside his son Icon the eventing stallion. Suzanne and l presented them in a Pole Dancing routine,   in  my big  show    THE MAGIC OF THE HORSE  Sadly it looks  like l will be saying goodbye to my old friend as his owner wants him back in November. Obviously words cant explain how l feel but when you do not own a horse you are not in control - l have been very fortunate  that he has spent quiet abit of his life with us over the years. My one regret is that we weren't able to try for the Dressage World Championship Team on his previous stay with me, though he only had a modest extended trot (6's) the rest of his work  was super, for me he is a truely special horse but the clock cannot be turned back and he had done many other  things during his career.  For me l feel it is energy wasted to keep thinking 'if only' one must live for now and look forward.

SAY NO TO LIVE EXPORT - SUPPORT THE ILPH * welfare
Very briefly, since 1937 there has been a Minimum Values legalisation on horses and ponies that are to be shipped out of this country. This has protected horses that may be of little value, i.e. old or injured or are simply not wanted being bought and sent into the meat market chain for human consumption.   The eating of horse meat is not the issue, whatever one thinks about it, the most important part is the method of transport, the length of the journey and overall handling of equines en route to the slaughter houses. The ILPH needs everyone's help to create awareness please go to their website on my links page and support this issue.

IT WAS OPERA TIME IN  '08 AND WE FEATURED IN

Carmen - Big Top Spectacular

Tanya, Idolo with top dancer SamIn '08 we performed in Carmen the Opera   at  Leeds Castle .

With Idolo, Jacque, Aldo and Nector, alias  the 'Maxi Marvels' we  presented a display High School and Grand Prix dressage movements!

This was a PR photo taken at   the press launch with Idolo on  at Leeds Castle.. We were joined by a top flamenco dancer.  It was pouring rain, but luckily  it held off for a short while  we did  our little display.

 NOW ON YOUTUBE!
Check out the Magic of the Horse at
http://www.youtube.com/themagicofthehorse and you can also see some of the Mini Marvels

Tanya and Jacque with Richard and friend You may have read that  top dog trainer Richard Curtis and l have presented a combined training demo  a couple of times featuring my Jack  with his canine friends. Our work is similar and we thought it would be fun for  everyone to see.  We have gone one step further and have put together a new display with some of the Mini Marvels and K9! It's still  in the development stages, l look forward to taking it out and about If you would like to see the action then visit the link below.  Let me know what you think of it  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9N0cwThCecI   For more on Richard and his work visit his site at www.k9freestyle.co.uk

HERCULES

It has been a while now since we lost my great little mate Hercules, but l will leave this up on the site as he was so well known. Better known as Dunky to his friends. I can only say that he is missed and the stables are a quieter place without him around. I am so pleased that I retired him as leader of the Mini Marvels Team when we performed at the European Dressage Championships Hickstead. I had planned on doing just special solo slots with him but that was not to be.

His career was launched at the Olympia Xmas Show Jumping Championships in 1988 when he took part in a long reining display with my top dressage horse Salute - they performed the comedy routine ‘The Long and the Short of It’. Read about Hercules and see some great photos on his tribute page at www.theminimarvels.com

INTERVIEWS and FEATURES '08/09
l have an  interview due out in  'British Dressage Magazine' in June, also a review of my production The Magic of the Horse in Harness magazine and Equestrian Lifestyle magazine

Last year some of you may have seen me in the national press last year  (thanks for the text and email's, we were even on channel 10 news in Australia, my cousin phoned me to check on things!)

What can l say  the behaviour and insistence by some of the press at trying to make contact is incredible -not knowing there was a story breaking, l answered my phone, as l always do. Oops  - what could l say  except 'no comment'  because you are damed if you say anything and damed if you don't. Also  l am of the opinion the peoples 'private' life is just that, so l took the only option and  switched my phone off, lThey say no publicity is bad publicity but what a pity that story didnt break just before my  production of The Magic of the Horse, wow free national coverage!!

Aside from that I have had quite a few features through the last year in all the major equestrian magazines. We are always on the look out for any PR possibilities in the TV and magazine world and it is sometimes a case of just sending your details to different places - I do not have any PR company handling my work so it is all up to me to keep the Larrigan name about
