Tanya, Marion and Peter Larrigan are

Picture
A unique family with an understanding of the horses mind that  comes through  a  lifetime of  handling and working with and observing 1000's of horses, ponies and other equines. Welfare is their number one priority for all animals, their training philosophy is  cooperation, not domination  either mentally or physically. They promote Voice Training in all areas of handling horses,  groundwork is used before young-stock are started under saddle and still used all through their lives. This work includes, liberty, long reining and lunging .

They have been so busy working and helping the animals they have not gone down the publicity route that many others have done. But their methods are tried and proven, animals who have been written off by others are given a new lease of life by end of their time with the family. Due to their work and their integrity  they are held in high regard, with much respect by many people, their reputation spreads far and they are trainers to the stars.

The Larrigans  offer you the chance to  learn more about understanding horses, their ways and how to improve yourself.  Whether you are a competitor or a ‘happy-hacker,’ the door is always open to learn.

Early Life

Picture
When Tanya says she was on a pony  before she could walk,  you see she is telling the truth, as  seen in this old family picture!  Leading a unique  childhood she  has always been surrounded by animals, from her life as a child of the  circus Tanya learnt from her parents that the animals were the priority.  The knowledge and experience gained during her extensive career,  her upbringing  and background gives her a unique  and fresh approach to working with horses of all sizes.

Training started young

Tanya is seen here having a session with her father Peter and listening very  intently - all of three years old!

International rider

Picture
As a rider Tanya  represented GB in International Dressage starting at 18 years old when she was in the very first Junior (as it was then called) European Dressage Championships in Aachen on the GB team. This was followed by the senior  teams for the World European Champs & on two Olympic Squads, she has vast experience in many  disciplines.

Marion is an  International Trainer

Picture
On the British Dressage list 2 dressage judges panel and  on the British International Trainers Foundation.  During the time the family ran Parkurst Riding and Livery stables at Abinger Common Dorking . Marion trained all the students for the BHS exams as well as running the riding holiday centre and being the main instructor.

As well as training Tanya, she also trained  British team member Fiona Bigwoods trainer from the age of 8years old until she moved abroad in her twenties.  Though not travelling so much now  Marion  also gives lessons at home or has been known to step in on a job  as seen above!

Peter  the Dubliner a real Horseman

Has ridden and trained horses all his life. The family have trained the horses of Sir Paul McCartney for over 30 years.  Peter only  stood down in his mid seventies due to health problems - in the world of animals you cannot buy knowledge or experience.

Peter has a unique affinity with all animals and really is one of the old timers who can never be replaced he certainly keeps everyone  entertained with his stories of the family’s past, of the animals they have met and worked with
.

It is a wise person who acknowledges their horses limitations, as
well as their own, do this and you will have a great partnership!
